The mission of the Office of English Learners is to support the implementation of Sheltered English Immersion with fidelity to promote English language acquisition by acceleration for all English learners in the district and to bring the opportunity of bilingualism/multilingualism to as many students as possible.
The vision of the Office of English Learners is to provide high quality and meaningful education to all English Learners so that they can achieve their full potential, become part of the U.S. citizenry and succeed in the 21st century society. This vision is anchored in core values of equity and diversity, which translate in the promotion of cultural and linguistic competence to foster an inclusive and pluralistic society where all individuals thrive and meaningfully contribute to community.
THEORY OF ACTION
The Office of English Learner’s Theory of Action endorses that if the district implements Sheltered English Immersion with fidelity, English Learners will become proficient in English within five years of entry to WPS, while progressively learn academic language and participate meaningfully and competently in content classes and the general curriculum.
