| Important Information The Worcester Public Schools has a voluntary student assignment policy, utilizing its Magnet School Network and its school of choice options. All elementary school students registering or transferring into the Worcester Public Schools are required to do so at the Parent Information Center. Staff at the Center assists parents in the selection of an educational environment that meets the academic needs of their child. This allows parents the opportunity to take advantage of the diverse educational opportunities that exist within the Worcester Public Schools. The Parent Information Center serves as the main source of information and assistance to all new students entering the Worcester Public Schools. The goal of the Center is to provide parents with all information relative to the advantages and opportunities for their children in Magnet and Choice schools. The Parent Information Center has available brochures describing schools and programs, as well as staff that is knowledgeable about the Worcester Public Schools and its resources. The staff of the Parent Information Center works closely with principals, parents, and school support staff to insure that parents have all the information necessary when making choice decisions. Native language assistance is also available. The Parent Information Center is centrally located and is open year round Monday-Friday from 8:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Kindergarten registration for the next school year begins in January, following an outreach mailing to parents of potential students by the principals of all elementary schools. This mailing list is compiled with the assistance of the Worcester Public Health department, Area Worship Centers, Neighborhood Centers, head Start Programs, Special Education Programs, the Bilingual department, and media outreach by the Parent Information Center. Staff of the Parent Information Center communicates with Greek, Spanish, and Vietnamese parents in their native languages. The Student Assignment Officer meets regularly with all the Neighborhood Center Directors, the Director of Public Health Nurses, and the principals of all elementary schools. Meetings are also held on a regular basis with principals and school staff to update Parent Information Center staff of changes in school and program offerings. Kindergarten The Worcester Public Schools offers full-day kindergarten programs in all of it's elementary schools. School Committee Policy: To be eligible to an attend kindergarten, a child must be five years old by December 31st. All registrations for both preschool and kindergarten take place at the Parent Information Center, 768 Main Street. Parent Information Center hours: Monday - Friday 8:30 A.M. - 4:00 P.M. Grades 1- 6 New students entering grades 1 - 6 also register at the Parent Information Center. They, too, must provide :
