gb #2-314 - Mr. O'Connell/Miss Biancheria/Mr. Monfredo/Ms. Colorio
(November 9, 2012)

To consider whether the students of the Worcester Public Schools should be encouraged or required to demonstrate an appropriate mastery of basic civics prior to their graduation, and, in this regard, to consider administering the civics portion of the United States Naturalization Test to seniors, or to a representative sample of seniors, on a pilot basis.

The administration responded to this item on December 6, 2012 and indicated that the television/media studio at Woodland/Claremont facility no longer exists. The area now houses the Young Voices program, a specialized space for pre-school students with cochlear implants. Although there are no other spaces available at the facility, the cost associate with building a television/media studio is prohibitive at this time.
