The Health Science Academy at North High School

The Health Assisting program at North High School is a Chapter 74 approved program that offers students the foundation of one of the most rewarding and fastest growing career pathways. Focusing on the development of nursing skills, our Health Assisting program is the ideal program for the outgoing, compassionate student interested in entering the growing field of healthcare.

With patient care a top priority, students receive instruction in anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, growth and development, medical terminology, aging, infectious disease, mental health, and nutrition. In addition to a rigorous academic program, students’ hands-on practice includes routine hospital patient care, first aid, caring for those with memory impairments, writing patient reports and laws surrounding patient care.

Clinical experiences at area hospitals and facilities expose students to the nurse’s role and provides real-world experience that truly offers a glimpse into healthcare industry. In their senior year, students are prepared to sit for the Certified Nursing Assistant exam, in which a passing score provides students with the credentials necessary to secure an entry-level position at various healthcare facilities. Upon graduation, many Health Assisting students pursue postsecondary education in the healthcare field leading to careers as Registered Nurses, EMTs, and Radiology Assistants to name a few. Choosing the Health Assisting career pathway opens the doors of opportunity through a solid foundation of academics and technical knowledge, as well as the chance to make a difference in someone’s life each day.
