Program of Studies: Physical Education

Program Mission/Purpose

The goal of the Worcester Public Schools Health and Physical Education Department is to provide students with the necessary skills which enable them to make safe and healthy choices in a variety of situations. In addition, students are given those skills which are needed to make fitness a life-long habit. The Health and Physical Education Curriculam, which is aligned with the Massachusetts Comprehensive Health Curriculum Framework, is taught by certified Health and Physical Education teachers.

Issues and Topics in Health Science: In this course, students will prepare for for entrance into highly competitive majors in their chosen fields by participating in intensive academic review for college entrance examinations. Students will also explore the role that research; communications; systems organizations; employability skills; legal issues; ethics; and safe practice play in the professional world.

Physical Education 8: In this course, students will learn and practice the skills necessary to participate in a variety of physical activities.
