Health Science Academy Laboratory Skills 10: In this course students will continue to study topics that will prepare them for the American Red Cross Exam, the Nurses Aide Competency Exam and support students in becoming competent with their skills and knowledge. The course curriculum prepares students to perform competently in the lab, at the clinical experience, and as a professional in the future. Students enrolled in this course must take the state Certified Nursing Assistant exam at the conclusion of the coursework. The curriculum in this course promotes individual growth and emphasizes patient independence. The curriculum meets federal and state guidelines, enabling the nursing assistant to assume an effective career as an employee. The course content will stimulate the nursing assistant to pursue and continue with personal and professional growth. The objectives will be accomplished through meaningful teacher-student relationships with an emphasis on the basic nursing care skills for a patient in the long-term care facility. As an honors level course, content will be covered at an accelerated pace. Students will study topics at a deeper level and will be expected to complete more independent coursework and assignments.
