Dearest Worcester Public School Families,

At Worcester Public Schools we know our children are our greatest treasure. Keeping them safe, joyful and learning is a collective responsibility. At the beginning of the school year I sent you a letter introducing myself and sharing our plan to review and enhance safety measures at our schools. I want to keep you informed of our actions to date.

  1. All schools have completed safety plans. Please speak with your principal if you would like to review your school safety plan.
  2. We have selected Guidepost Solutions from Boston to perform our safety audit. They will review current practices and policies at the district and school level including, but not limited to, drop off and pick up procedures, visitor protocols, and the physical safety and security of our buildings.
  3. We are contracting with https://iloveuguys.org/. The “I Love U Guys” Foundation will provide necessary research-based best practice training for WPS staff. They will also offer parent information sessions. Students will participate in regular practice drills to be prepared for any potential emergency incident.

‘The “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s programs for crisis response and post-crisis reunification are used in more than 30,000 schools, districts, departments, agencies, organizations and communities around the world.’

  4. School principals will begin to add a standing school safety agenda item to all School Site Council agendas so each school can review emergency response procedures and problem solve solutions.
  5. On November 10, 2022 the Worcester School Committee will receive a status update on emergency preparedness in Worcester Public Schools. Please log in or join us in person if your calendar permits.

Worcester Public Schools is committed to leading a high quality educational program offered in a safe learning environment. Please do not hesitate to seek further clarity from your school principal or the district office. We are here to serve.

Striving for excellence together,

Rachel H. Monarrez, PhD
Superintendent of Schools
