Burncoat Middle Dual Language Open House

Dear Parents/Guardians of a sixth grade Dual Language Program student:

Please join us on Tuesday, February 4th, 2020 (snow date: Wednesday, February 5th) from 6-7 p.m. for our Dual Language Open House to learn about the continuation of this incredible language program at Burncoat Middle School. You’ll have an opportunity to meet our fabulous teachers, learn about the curriculum we use and the opportunities that are a part of the Dual Language program and BMS.

Our students further their language skills, knowledge of culture, develop bilingual and bi-literacy skills in both English and Spanish while in the Dual Language Program.

The middle school continuation of the Dual Language program features the following courses taught in Spanish: Language Seminar, Ancient Civilizations and Spanish for Native Speakers.

The focus of the Language Seminar is exploring Hispanic culture. Ancient Civilizations uses the same curriculum as the Ancient Civilizations course taught to all WPS grade 7 students. The Spanish for Native Speakers class is a Language Arts course focused on building literacy and communication skills in Spanish.

The remaining required courses – English, Math and Science are taught in English. Students in the Dual Language will also choose a magnet program from the following: Media Art, Visual Art, or Theatre. All students will take the required physical education and health courses.
