Indoor Recess, Physical Education on June 8 Due to Air Quality

Dear Worcester Public Schools Staff,

We are writing to inform you that all recess and physical education classes will be held indoors for the remainder of today, Thursday, June 8. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution due to the unhealthy air quality levels for sensitive groups, as well as children and teens, due to smoke from the ongoing wildfires in Canada. Today, Worcester’s U.S. Air Quality Index is 147. We will monitor the situation for tomorrow.

We thank our WPS Nursing Staff for advising us in this decision. If you have any questions, please speak with your school building nurse. We are communicating with families about this decision now. Thank you and stay safe.
