Safe Food List

FOOD ALLERGY AWARENESS – 2018-2019

NO FOOD IS ALLOWED FOR CELEBRATIONS AT NORRBACK AVE. SCHOOL.

Although nearly any food is capable of triggering an allergic reaction, there are some common foods that cause a majority of reactions.  They are:  PEANUTS, EGG, MILK, TREE-NUTS, SOY, WHEAT, FISH, SHELLFISH, and SESAME (http: www.foodallergy 2018)

Due to the fact that there are numerous students with PEANUT and TREE NUT allergies, we ask staff and students be NUT AWARE in the classroom and avoid snacks that may contain PEANUTS or TREE-NUTS.

The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention’s (CDC) “Voluntary Guidelines for Managing Food Allergies in Schools and Ear Care and Education Programs” recommend avoiding the use of known allergens in classroom activities, such as arts and crafts, counting, science projects, parties, holidays and celebrations, or cooking.  The guidelines advise using nonfood items for rewards or incentives to help create and maintain a healthy, safe, and inclusive environment for students.
