Today, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) released annual accountability indicator data for all public schools and districts in the Commonwealth for the 2022-23 school year that ended June 30.
Worcester Public Schools Chief Diversity Officer Ivonne Perez, who is retiring next week, received the Key to the City from Mayor Joseph Petty in a ceremony at the Worcester School Committee meeting on Thursday, September 7, 2023.
Due to the extended forecast of hot temperatures, all Worcester Public Schools will dismiss students three (3) hours early on Thursday, September 7, and Friday, September 8. There will be no half-day preschool. There are adjustments to the high school athletic schedules.
The first day of school is Monday, August 28 for grades 1-12 and Thursday, August 31, for pre-kindergarten (pre-K) and kindergarten. We are writing to provide you with updates on back-to-school resources, accessing the WooEdu portal, bus routes, and information for families of the former La Familia School who are merging with Chandler Magnet Elementary.
Montserrat Garibay, the Assistant Deputy Secretary of the Office of English Language Acquisition for the U.S. Department of Education, will provide closing keynote remarks for the WPS Embracing Multilingualism Conference at South High School.
Instructional Focus
The Chandler Magnet School will increase and expand student comprehension in ELA and mathematics by making connections to student background knowledge and implementing focused and targeted teacher and student questioning to deepen student understanding.
