Superintendent’s Call – December 31, 2021

The following is the transcript from the phone message sent out by the Superintendent on Friday, December 31, 2021.

Good Morning,

This is Superintendent Binienda. The MA Department of Public Health and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has issued new Covid-19 Guidelines. The guidelines are posted on the Worcester Public Schools website worcesterschools.org.  Effective December 29, the isolation period has been changed from 10 days to 5 days for students and staff who test positive. Students and staff may return to work after 5 days, which is Day 6 from symptom onset or after positive PCR or antigen test. Students and staff should not return after 5 days if they are still symptomatic. Following the 5-day isolation period, individuals must mask for 5 additional days.

All students should bring two masks to school each day. Student's masks should cover both the nose and mouth at all times, except while eating lunch and for mask breaks. Students should also use hand sanitizer and/or wash their hands.

DESE and DPH continue to strongly recommend that all faculty, staff, and eligible students receive the COVID-19 vaccine and booster.

As of Monday, January 3rd the Worcester Public Schools will only allow parents and siblings of players and coaches to attend athletic events for boys and girls basketball, boys ice hockey, and cheerleading. This new policy is in place for the month of January and will be reviewed at the end of January.

Worcester Public Schools will begin as scheduled on Monday, January 3.

Wishing you a Happy New Year!!
