TwiCongratulations to Vernon Hill School who was awarded over $170,000 to implement a new 21st Century site in the district! Vernon Hill will be the only elementary school in the district with a 21st Century site.
This was a highly competitive process with only 12 programs funded in the state of Massachusetts. The Out-of-School Time (OST) program at Vernon Hill School will serve 50 students in Grades 3-5 during the school year as well as provide a summer Jump Start Academy for 50 students entering Kindergarten and Grades 4-5.
We look forward to working with Worcester Public School staff as well as various community partners to provide creative, engaging and project-based Out-of-School time activities. Community partners will include Becker College/Mass DiGi who will deliver programming around game development as a way to engage students in the field of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM); Worcester Art Museum who will provide art related activities including Drawing Through the Ages, Graphic Novel 101 and Architecture for Kids; FitClub who will provide fitness, nutritional and health opportunities to students; as well as Science from Scientists who will provide programming during the summer focused on activities such as the water cycle, moon phases, energy and various engineering-design challenges.
