Career Technical Education at North
CTE Overview
North High School has four career technical education (CTE) programs, with two of the four being designated as "Chapter 74." Students are admitted into Chapter 74 programs through a tiered lottery admissions process, per the WPS Chapter 74 Admissions Policy.
Each pathway requires a four-year commitment, totaling 1,200 hours of specialized training to earn a vocational certificate.
Applications open mid-year for 8th-grade students and are processed through a tiered admissions lottery system.

Admissions Process for Chapter 74 CTE Programs at North High School
If an incoming ninth-grade student is interested in participating in a Chapter 74 CTE program at Doherty, North, or South high schools, they apply directly for the CTE program they desire. (This is different from the Worcester Technical High School process, in which a student applies for admission to the school, and then chooses a program after beginning the ninth grade.)
Students are selected through a tiered lottery admissions process.
If the student is accepted into the CTE program, they are also accepted into the school hosting that program.

Health Assisting
Focusing on the development of nursing skills, our Health Assisting program is the ideal program for the outgoing, compassionate student interested in entering the growing field of healthcare.
The Health Assisting program prepares students with the knowledge, practical skills, and certifications needed for a career in healthcare. Students gain training in areas such as OSHA safety standards, CPR/First Aid, and Alzheimer’s/dementia care. By the conclusion of the program, students are eligible to earn their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license, positioning them for immediate entry into the workforce or further education in the healthcare sector.
Business Technology
The Business Technology program at North High School integrates marketing concepts, computer applications, and office practices and procedures that will provide students with a solid foundation in the business world.
The program focuses on entrepreneurship and business management. Students learn how to start, market, and manage a business, gaining hands-on experience by operating and managing a school-based apparel business and store. Certifications in OSHA, Microsoft Office, and QuickBooks accounting software further enhance their credentials and career readiness.
Career Elective
Early Childhood
In the Early Childhood Program, students focus on the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development of the child from birth to age five. (This is not a Chapter 74/CTE program nor a "non-Chpater 74/Career Pathway," which is a specific state designation.)
