Dear Roosevelt School Families,
I hope this message finds you well. I want to take a moment to address a concern that impacts us all—our current parking situation at Roosevelt Elementary School. As you know, the limited parking during afternoon dismissal has created challenges, especially along Grafton Street and nearby roads. I understand that this can be frustrating, and I truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we work together to manage these difficulties.
Lately, we’ve been hearing from our neighbors—both residents and local businesses—who are concerned about blocked driveways. I know none of us want to cause inconvenience or stress to those who live and work around the school.
With that in mind, the Worcester Police Department has asked all caregivers to please follow these important guidelines:
Keep a clear distance of 20 feet from the school’s driveway entrances. This ensures our buses can make turns safely, and parking is available after the utility pole.
Do not park or idle within 5 feet of residential or commercial driveways. Blocking driveways is both discourteous and hazardous, especially in the case of an emergency. Tickets may be issued for violations.
Do not park or idle within 10 feet of fire hydrants. We must ensure quick access during an emergency.
Adhere to all posted traffic signs, cones, and markings as we work together to manage the high congestion around the school. Your cooperation is key in ensuring the safety of both children and adults.
I kindly ask that we all remain patient, courteous, and mindful of the instructions given by our staff or police who are outside during dismissal to assist with traffic flow. Your cooperation makes a huge difference in keeping everyone safe.
I also want to share that the Worcester Public Schools has plans in place to improve the parking lot at Roosevelt to include additional parking spaces and another entrance and exit. The project was originally scheduled to occur last summer but was delayed due to a need for additional study due to environmental impacts; we anticipate it will be completed in the summer of 2025.
Until then, I ask for your continued partnership in being respectful neighbors and helping to ensure our community’s safety.
Thank you so much for your attention to this important matter and for your ongoing support.
Sincerely,
Maureen Power
