Dear Vernon Hill School Faculty, Staff, and Families,
I hope this letter finds you well. It is with mixed emotions that I write to inform you of my decision to transition from my position as principal of Vernon Hill School to a new role within the Worcester Public Schools. This new role provides me with the opportunity to rely on my two decades of experience in alternative education to support the development and growth of our alternative settings.
When I was asked eight years ago to leave my teaching position at an alternative high school to work as an administrator at an elementary school, I was apprehensive about shifting from my high school background to the unknown of an elementary school. As I look back now at my time at Vernon Hill School, I am grateful for the opportunity. The work we have done was not always easy and came with many challenges, but it has been incredibly rewarding. Working with our children has been a true joy and privilege. Watching them grow, learn, and achieve their goals has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career. The work we have done in fostering a growth mindset has had an amazing impact on how our students view and embrace challenges. I am deeply grateful for the trust and support you have shown me throughout my tenure.
This decision was not made lightly. While I am excited about the new challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, I will miss the wonderful community we have built together. I am confident that Vernon Hill will continue to thrive and provide an exceptional learning environment for all students.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the administration, my colleagues, and most importantly, the students and their families. Your collaboration, dedication, and enthusiasm have made my time here truly special. I am committed to ensuring a smooth transition and will do everything I can to support my successor in taking on this important role.
Although I am leaving my position, I will always cherish the memories and relationships formed at Vernon Hill. I hope to stay in touch and hear about the continued successes and achievements of our students.
A new Principal for Vernon Hill has not been identified at this time. The WPS Human Resources Department will publicly post the position and follow the district’s hiring process. WPS will interview candidates as soon as possible to ensure that the new leader will be prepared and ready to begin the new school year. Executive Director Dr. Kareem Tatum will oversee the hiring process in collaboration with our Human Resources.
