Dear Families, Caregivers, and Partners,
The season of change is upon us as the fall colors are vibrant in our community. Change is also here for the naming of our joined community. During the October 10th, 2024 School Committee meeting, a discussion and recommendation was made by district administration and then by the school committee members to vote for a new name for our school. As many of you know, we have been collaborating as a school and with the district leadership to formalize data, synthesize opinions, and come to a consensus.
As a result of months of deliberation, conversation, and finally a vote, Chandler Magnet/La Familia will now be named Worcester Dual Language Magnet School. We are working with the district to finalize procedures at the district and state level. We look forward to a grand ribbon cutting ceremony with our leadership team and district representatives to celebrate this next phase in the unification of the two schools. Please stay tuned for more information about the unveiling in the next few weeks.
With our new name, we now have the opportunity to move forward with naming our new mascot, the chameleon. Like the chameleon, we have adapted, changed, and shown resilience in the face of challenge. We will continue to change and adapt as we navigate the learning landscape of our growing school and community. We look forward to naming our mascot, with the help of the students in the next month with a naming contest!
We are grateful to the staff, teachers, administrators, and parents that supported this naming process and the work to identify a label that represents our mission, vision, and core values. Together is better and as one school, we are ready to move forward and continue the work of building a bilingual, bicultural, biliterate, and socially responsible community of learners.
