Application & Acceptance Information
Application
Invitations to apply will be sent to 6th grade WPS students who are Worcester residents and received STAR Scores in both reading and mathematics that are above the 75th percentile.
We will look at the district recorded 5th grade spring, 6th grade fall, and 6th grade winter scores and use the highest of those scores for each area.
Once invitations are sent out applicants will be put into two tiers.
Tier 1
STAR scores in reading and math in the 85th percentile or better.
Tier 2
STAR scores in reading and math in the 75th percentile or better
Tier 1
Students who apply will be ranked and accepted in that order. If the 50 seats are not filled, we will move to Tier 2 students.
Tier 2
Students in Tier 2 will be chosen by lottery if needed.
A waiting list will be created during the lottery to fill any open seats that become available through the end of the first quarter of 7th grade.
If seats become available, they will be filled by students in the tier I waiting list first. In the event that there are no students in the tier I waiting list a tier 2 waiting list student will be selected by lottery.
HIAA students who maintain academic qualifications will automatically be accepted in the HIAA program at Burncoat High for grades 9-12.
HIAA students entering high school may choose to apply to any program in the city, but we strongly encourage students to remain in the HIAA program at Burncoat High.
If your child is a Worcester Resident and has not taken STAR testing please contact the school.
