Worcester UNITES hosted its summer concert at Sullivan Middle School earlier this week! 😎🎷 The summer concert featured performances from the string orchestra and concert band and brought together more than 100 WPS musicians from over 20 district-schools. Great job to our Worcester UNITES musicians and thank you to our instructors and families for supporting the program!

Worcester Public Schools, Worcester Public Library Team Up For Accessible Summer Reading 📚😎 This summer, all Worcester Public Schools (WPS) students who will enter grades 7, 8, 9, or 10 in the fall will have free access to digital versions of their summer reading books thanks to a new partnership with the Worcester Public Library (WPL). The students will receive free access to digital summer reading books through the Sora app on Clever. The digital books are now available for 90-day checkout at no cost to WPS students or their families.

School canceled on Thursday, June 20th!🌞 We are anticipating hot weather this week with high temperatures forecast above 90 degrees Tuesday through Friday. As a result, school will be canceled on Thursday, June 20. In addition, Burncoat High School will be canceled on Friday, June 21. Last day of school will be tomorrow, Tuesday, June 18!

📢We are thrilled to announce that on Monday, June 3, the DCU Center was buzzing with energy and enthusiasm as students from across Massachusetts gathered to present their remarkable projects at the DESE Civics Action Showcase! Featured Projects: Forest Grove: Our students tackled pressing real-world issues such as smoking cigarettes, improving school lunches, and addressing gun violence. Their projects demonstrated a deep understanding of and commitment to resolving the challenges facing our communities. Sullivan Middle School: Our scholars presented on crucial topics like vaping, organizing a food raiser, and kids' reflections on the importance of trees. These projects showcased their dedication to promoting a healthier and more responsible future. North High School: Students showcased the impactful work of their Mental Health Awareness Club (BC2M) and presented projects addressing animal cruelty. Their efforts highlighted their commitment to mental health advocacy and animal rights. We are incredibly proud of all the students who participated!🎉👏

🏆On May 31st, at South High Community School, teams consisting of four students in grades 5 and 6 showcased their mathematical prowess in the 3rd annual Math Competition. Today for Teacher Appreciation Week we recognize Emily Siudela! Ms. Siudela seamlessly integrates new students. Collaborating closely with the Student Adjustment Councilor and Assistant Principal, she supports students academically and emotionally. Her dynamic teaching style sparks student interest, recently enhanced by securing a grant for a hydroponic growing system.

Sullivan Middle School ⭐ “Jacky is a positive light in our classroom,” said fellow staff member Emily Siudela. “He is calm in the face of chaos and truly tries to form strong relationships with students. He always wants to improve his practice, whether it’s academics, data collection, substitute teaching, helping students with coping skills or just competing with me in the morning for who gets to school first (he usually wins). Jacky is an excellent role model for all.”

Ramadan Kareem! 🌙 Today begins the period of Ramadan on the Islamic lunar calendar. “It is a month filled with spiritual growth, community love, and delicious iftars,” explained Kowsar, a senior from Worcester Technical High School and intern in the WPS Communications Office. Many Muslims participate in fasting over the course of the month.
