Worcester Technical High School automotive technology students recently refurbished a used car for a needing recipient in partnership with the nonprofit organization Second Chance Cars.

Second Chance Cars provides refurbished, affordable used cars for low-income recipients who need a vehicle to get to and from work but cannot afford one. Recipients primarily include veterans, returning citizens, single parents, refugees, and healthcare workers.

Worcester Technical is one of nine vocational schools in Massachusetts that partners with Second Chance Cars to accomplish this mission. Since the partnership began, Worcester Technical students have refurbished eight cars.

On the most recent car, a 2011 Nissan Rogue, students replaced the transmission, stabilizers, and air filters to get the vehicle in working order. It was then donated to Jim, a returning citizen, during a ceremony in the automotive technology teaching space at Worcester Tech.

"I am amazed by the depth, quality and volume of work that Ron Alger and his instructors are able to help the students accomplish, both in automobile repairs but also on the collision side," said Dan Holin, Executive Director of Second Chance Cars.
