A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday, November 22, to officially name the South High Community School’s athletic complex after Maureen Binienda, former Worcester Public Schools superintendent and South High principal. Ms. Binienda was recently elected to the Worcester School Committee.

The ceremony was held at the start of the Thanksgiving football game between North and South high schools. South won the game with a final score of 20-14.

Ms. Binienda received an official citation from Senator Michael Moore and Representative David LeBoeuf (a South High graduate), for her longtime dedication to the school and shepherding it through the construction process.

Also on hand were the 1988 South High field team that Binienda coached; Mayor Joseph Petty, Superintendent Rachel Monárrez, South High Principal Jeff Creamer, and several elected officials.
