Jacob Hiatt Principal Tammy Boyle, alongside Worcester Public Schools educators and officials from AbbVie and Heart of America, cut the ribbon on the school’s new STEAM Lab.

WORCESTER – Wednesday, June 26, 2024 – Representatives from AbbVie and Heart of America, alongside over 100 AbbVie and Worcester Public Schools volunteers, put the finishing touches and cut the ribbon on a newly-renovated STEAM Lab at Jacob Hiatt Magnet School on Wednesday, June 26.

The Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) Lab at Jacob Hiatt will be available for student use starting in the new school year. The lab is planned to be used as a collaborative workspace for students at the school, providing in-depth learning opportunities across STEAM-related subjects. The projects will align with the district’s Vision of a Learner future-ready framework.

“We are incredibly thankful for AbbVie, Heart of America and all of the volunteers for providing our students with a beautiful new STEAM lab,” said Tammy Boyle, Principal at Jacob Hiatt. “This space will provide more engaging and impactful learning opportunities for our students in all areas of STEAM.”

The STEAM Lab comes following a joint national effort from AbbVie and Heart of America as part of AbbVie’s Week of Possibilities community initiative. Since 2014, AbbVie and Heart of America have partnered to transform school spaces into STEAM labs throughout the United States, including in Worcester at Forest Grove Middle School (2022) and Elm Park Community School (2019).
