Message from Worcester Public Schools Superintendent Rachel H. Monárrez and Worcester Interim Police Chief Paul Saucier:
Saturday, September 21, 2024
Dear Worcester Public Schools Families,
We are writing to update you about the message we shared on Friday regarding threatening messages on social media.
On Saturday, multiple students from various schools in the Worcester Public Schools (WPS) reported viewing threatening messages. The Worcester Police Department is investigating and trying to determine if these are new messages or the same ones from earlier this week.
WPS is communicating closely with the Worcester Police Department. At this time, the police do not believe there is a credible threat to safety in the Worcester Public Schools. There will be additional police presence at identified schools on Monday.
Additionally, we have shared information with our staff to increase vigilance around visitor management and to ensure safety protocols are being followed.
We would like to again thank the students and caregivers who are bringing this matter to the attention of school staff. We are disappointed and frustrated about the continuous online threats that have been made toward schools statewide, most of which turn out not to be credible.
The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. If you ever hear of any safety concerns, please contact us.
Sincerely,
Rachel H. Monárrez, PhD
Superintendent
Worcester Public Schools
Paul B. Saucier
Interim Police Chief
