WORCESTER - The City of Worcester Department of Public Works & Parks (DPW&P), in collaboration with Worcester Public Schools, shared Thursday the four winning names of its “Name a Snowplow” contest.
Worcester Public Schools students in grades K-12 submitted entries to name four trucks that plow main arterials in four different quadrants of the city. Those entries were then voted on by the public to determine the four truck names.
The four winning snowplow truck names are:
Scoop Dogg - Mrs. Stephanie Trainor’s Grade 6 Class, Francis J. McGrath Elementary School
Sleetwood Mac - Ms. Victoria Alexander’s Grades K-2 SAIL Class, Norrback Avenue School
William Scrapespeare - Ms. Aimee Kewley’s Grades 9-12 Theater Magnet Class, Burncoat High School
Snow More Mr. Ice Guy - Ms. Sydney Lamothe's Grades 9-10 Advisory Class, University Park Campus School
“Congratulations to our students on a great contest,” said City Manager Eric D. Batista. “Your creativity and imaginative names were inspiring to see. Thank you to the public for your engagement in this fun campaign. We are excited to have four of our most visible snowplow trucks now named.”
“Our Worcester Public Schools scholars never fail to impress with their creativity and humor,” said Dr. Rachel H. Monárrez, Superintendent of Worcester Public Schools. “The winning snowplow names are not only clever but a fun way to engage in English language arts lessons. It’s wonderful to see our scholars’ imaginations at work while bringing laughter and joy to our community.”
The winning classrooms will have their photos taken with the trucks, receive DPW&P swag, and be recognized at a future City Council meeting.
