The Worcester Public Schools Facilities Department has been hard at work making upgrades to our school buildings all summer long!
Major work has taken place at Worcester Arts Magnet Elementary School as part of a $2.5 million project to enhance access for all, including people with disabilities. Work includes renovations to bathrooms, classrooms, building entrances and exits, and an indoor ramp. This project was funded by the Mass. School Building Authority (MSBA).
At Chandler Magnet Elementary, a $275,000 summer project includes replacing classroom floors, lockers, a classroom wall installation, and an air quality assessment.
Challenge and Reach Academy had a fire sprinkler system installed this summer as part of a multi-phase disability access project. At the Lincoln Street School, a wall removal project took place.
New gym floors were installed at Elm Park Community School and Burncoat High School. Burncoat is also having new gym bleachers installed – allowing for a return to competitive basketball games. The district continues to advocate for funding from the MSBA for construction of a new Burncoat High School building.
We thank the WPS Facilities Department for sweating it out for our students this summer!
