Dear Worcester Public Schools Families and Staff,
We are anticipating hot weather this week with high temperatures forecast above 90 degrees Tuesday through Friday. As a result, school will be canceled on Thursday, June 20. In addition, Burncoat High School will be canceled on Friday, June 21. Per Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) guidance, these days do not need to be made up this school year.
As a result of these cancellations, the last day of school will be tomorrow, Tuesday, June 18. Please note that there is no school on Wednesday, June 19, due to the Juneteenth federal holiday.
Because of the age of our buildings, many do not have air conditioning. We regret that we are ending the school year in an abrupt manner, but we want to ensure our students and staff are safe in what are predicted to be unusually hot temperatures.
Stay cool and stay safe.
Sincerely,
Rachel H. Monárrez, PhD
Superintendent
Worcester Public Schools
