WORCESTER — Shelese Johnson, an Early Childhood Education instructor at Worcester Technical High School, has been named the Massachusetts Career & Technical Educators (MassCTE) New Teacher of the Year.

The MassCTE New Teacher Award recognizes a new educator who exemplifies excellence in teaching within the career technical high school setting. The recipient will also receive up to $500 in course supplies for their classroom or shop.

Ms. Johnson joined Worcester Tech in 2020, where she has balanced the education of preschoolers and high school students in a career and technical education (CTE) setting. In just three years, she was appointed Department Head, where she led program improvements and created opportunities for students to gain real-world experience, including a program that employs Early Childhood students as event caregivers.
