Title IX

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (“Title IX”), 20 U.S.C. §1681 et seq., is a Federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs and activities.

Title IX protects students’ and employees’ rights to be free from sex-based conduct and sexual harassment in school. The regulations expand the definition of prohibited conduct under the federal law to include sex-based discrimination, gender discrimination, and sexual orientation.
