A Conversation with Dr. Beverly Tatum

The STEM Education Center at WPI is pleased to invite you to a special session with Dr. Beverly Tatum on Monday, November 6, from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Innovation Studio Rm 205). This session will feature Dr. Tatum’s insights and experiences with Culturally Relevant Practices for PreK-12 Educators.

Discussion Topics:

  • What current and future teachers need to know and be able to do regarding Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT)
  • Avoiding pitfalls and overcoming barriers to implementing CRT in the classroom
  • What it means and what it looks like to truly “know your students”

Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum (author of “Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria? and Other Conversations About Race”) has engaged in educational initiatives designed to expand educational opportunity for underserved students and their families, and is a sought-after speaker on the topic of racial identity development, the impact of race in the classroom, and strategies for creating inclusive environments.

Guests to WPI will receive a parking permit and a campus map before the event. Please check-in by 10:45 am, as the event will start right at 11 am. Coffee/tea and light refreshments will be available.
