The WPS Nursing Department’s Mission is to secure equitable access to comprehensive health care for all students, while ensuring evidence-based services that promote prevention, are culturally appropriate and accessible to the diverse needs of our students and community. As essential members of the schools interdisciplinary team and understanding the importance of the correlation between student health and academic success we have adopted the; Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child approach [CDC], 2014, to maximize the health, well-being, academic success and lifelong learning of our students and community.

Clinical Care Coordination Program:

The Clinical Care Coordination (CCC) program promotes good health and provides youth with special healthcare needs exceptional specialized medical care during their academic school day. Health, safety and well-being of all students is a priority.

Specialized medical care includes Licensed Practical Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants working closely with students, families, teachers, school nurses, community agencies and medical providers to provide high quality care and support for students medical, social and emotional conditions.

The CCC Program utilizes the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child Model. Specifically integrating the collaboration between education and health to improve each child’s cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development.

Stabilization and Re-Entry Program:

Incorporates therapeutic interventions such as: mindfulness, self-calming, and/ or counseling services etc. in order to assist schools in the development of new strategies and processes that will improve the educational learning environment for all students. The team demonstrates essential clinical skills and knowledge needed to work with students and staff to improve school-wide culture and climate. Based on an integrated collaborative model, this multidisciplinary team works directly with school based teams to assess and provide social emotional learning (SEL) interventions and therapeutic services of students as well as facilitating discussions leading to critical analysis and process improvement amongst building-based staff.
